By\n \n Jon Solomon \n \n New York-based jazz musician David Amram has played in Denver multiple times for the annual Neal Cassady birthday bash at the Mercury Cafe. The 87-year-old Amram was friends with Cassady and other Beat luminaries in the ’50s, and can even be seen playing French horn in the 1959 film Pull My Daisy, which was based on a poem by Cassady, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. Aside from his association with the Beats, Amram is a spirited jazz player, whether on piano, French horn or an assortment of flutes, and he’s worked with such jazz heavies as Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Charles Mingus...
